Springfield Armory XD mod 3
Springfield Armory isn’t typically the first name that comes to mind when thinking of budget-friendly firearms. So, when it releases a pistol with a $325 MSRP, it certainly stands out.
Despite its low price, this model comes equipped with features like an optics-ready slide, a flat-face trigger, and a 16+1 magazine capacity. The XD Mod.3 should tick off many boxes you’d look for in a concealed carry or home defense pistol without costing an arm and a leg.
Given Springfield’s history of reliable firearms, I had higher than average expectations for this model, especially given its budget category.
In this review, we’ll look closer at its features and share insights based on our range sessions to help you decide whether the XD Mod.3 is a hidden gem or a waste of your money.
How We Tested
Reliability
I’ve now put 375 rounds through the gun so far, consisting of 150 rounds of 115-grain Fiocchi Range Dynamics, 200 rounds of 124-grain Blazer Brass, and 25 rounds of 115-grain Hornady Zombie Max.
Out of those 375 rounds, I experienced no malfunctions or issues, which didn’t come as much of a surprise.
Accuracy
I tested it from 7 to 20 yards, and it proved more than accurate enough for a defensive role, even without an optic.
The front fiber optic sight stood out clearly, and while the trigger reset is a bit on the longer side, the break is crisp and consistent. Both made for easy follow-up shots that were tight and controlled.
