California Residents WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm - www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
SIG SAUER is modernizing its P226 with the Sig P226 XFIVE Legion pistol, offering numerous upgrades. SIG aims to push the limits of established firearm platforms, addressing questions about shooting and value. Our Team had the gun tested over 1,000 rounds to determine its performance and worthiness.
The accuracy as they were getting into range was slow with solid firing, but not any better at 7-18 yards than some of the other guns we have. With known expectations and more familiarization on the second attempt, there was increase in accuracy with even much better shots. Once I added the Sig ROMEO-X red dot, things started to come together even more.

SIG P226 XFIVE LEGION BACKGROUND
In 2015, Sig launched its Legion line of upgraded pistols that offered shooters enhanced features and exclusive benefits.
By 2022, Sig announced their P226 XFIVE (X5 for short), a competition-ready pistol with modern features requested by the current generation of shooters. It’s no secret that a lot of other firearm industries have A-grade competition models of their base model duty guns, but Sig Sauer stands out with its p226 x5 legion, featuring an oversized gas pedal, three 20-round magazines, integrated expansion chamber, tungsten-infused grips, and adjustable trigger, ensuring the tiniest detailed upgrades for an already expensive gun, despite competition from other companies.
Reliability
I ran through 1000 rounds of 115-grain Blazer FMJ, about 200 rounds of Fiocchi 124-grain FMJ, and a box of Speer Gold-Dot 124-grain +P JHPs.
I suffered three failure-to-feed stoppages with the 115-grain Blazer. Two of these were in the first 50 rounds, with the last one being around the 950-round mark.
The recoil spring is a dual-type spring with a secondary spring, much like the H&K USP. I believe that the occasional light-loaded rounds on the lighter 115-grain ammo weren’t generating enough force to cycle the slide completely.
The SIG P266 X5 Legion features a TXG (Tungsten-Infused X-Series) grip, which is a standout component of its design. This grip module is made from a tungsten-infused polymer, a process that gives it the weight of steel (adding heft to reduce muzzle flip by up to 50%) while retaining the flexibility of polymer for better shock absorption. The grip weighs 16.6 oz, including the internal tungsten weight and extended magwell, which enhances reload speed.
The TXG grip on the P226 XFive Legion is contoured for a natural hand feel, often described as more comfortable than standard P226 grips, especially for medium-sized hands. It features a Legion-pattern black texture for a secure hold, and the magwell is integrated into the design, supporting new-style 17-round and 21-round magazines with circular SIG Sauer logos and square locking tabs.
However, some users note that while the added weight improves shooting stability, it makes the pistol heavier (42.4 oz total with magazine) for all-day carry, and an all-steel frame might be preferred by those seeking even more heft.
-
Material: Tungsten-infused polymer (16.6 oz with magwell).
-
Compatibility: Specific to X-Series models like the P226 XFive Legion and some P320 variants (e.g., P320-XFive Legion, as seen in posts on X).
-
Benefits: Reduces muzzle flip by up to 50%, improves recoil management, and offers a contoured Legion-pattern texture for a secure hold. The integrated magwell speeds up reloads.
-
Material: Lightweight polymer (8–10 oz for P226 grips).
-
Compatibility: Fits most P226 models (DA/SA, DAK), including standard and Legion variants, as well as P228/P229 (available from SIG Sauer’s official site and retailers like Midwest Gun Works).
-
Benefits: Lightweight, reducing overall pistol weight (e.g., ~31.7 oz for a standard P226), making it better for carry. Affordable and widely available.
-
Material: One-piece polymer with reduced circumference.
-
Compatibility: Designed for P226, P229, and P220 models (DA/SA); not compatible with SAO models like the XFive Legion due to safety lever cutouts.
-
Benefits: Slimmer profile (reduces grip circumference by 0.1–0.2 inches), fitting a wider range of hand sizes. Improved texture over standard polymer; no screws needed for installation.
